Flux: Simple Software to Make Life Better
by Brian Pohl
It’s the little things life, and f.lux (justgetflux.com), is a little piece of software that will have a BIG impact on your day-to-day computer life. Using virtually none of your computer resources (ie not slowing you down), f.lux takes on the the simple task of adapting your computer display to the time of day. From the f.lux website:
During the day, computer screens look good—they’re designed to look like the sun. But, at 9PM, 10PM, or 3AM, you probably shouldn’t be looking at the sun. It’s even possible that you’re staying up too late because of your computer. You could use f.lux because it makes you sleep better, or you could just use it just because it makes your computer look better.
This objective of subtly adjusting your computer screen’s display to reflect your surroundings may seem trivial, but after using it for a few months now, I can’t imagine life without it. It really makes a difference when working at night or early in the morning to prevent that eerie blue glow digital screens often give off in the dark. And don’t fret designers, they have a quick 1-click fix for disabling the service at night or when you’re doing color-sensitive work.
f.lux is available across all platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS) except Android, so get your f.lux on everybody.
